Unicode encoding
Unicode is a universal standard for encoding text in nearly every writing system, including Bangla. All modern operating systems ship with built-in Bangla Unicode fonts, so Unicode text displays correctly on any device without installing anything — which is why websites, apps and social media all use it.
Bijoy encoding
Bijoy is an ANSI-based character encoding for Bengali that works through font substitution: the correct characters appear only when an ANSI Bangla font such as SutonnyMJ is selected. ANSI supports just 256 characters, and the same bytes render differently under different fonts — for example, the letter m in an English font becomes স in a Bijoy font. That is why Bijoy text looks broken on the web, and why conversion to Unicode is necessary.
